Getting started
Both. ShopMCP works with Claude in your web browser at claude.ai and with the Claude Desktop app.
Previously custom connectors only worked in Claude Desktop, but you can now add them in the web version too — even on the free Claude plan. Most users don't need to install anything: just sign in at claude.ai, paste your MCP URL into Settings → Connectors, and you're ready.
If Claude lists your themes, you're connected.
Easiest test: start a new chat with Claude and ask "List my Shopify themes". If Claude responds with a list of your themes — you're connected.
If Claude says it can't see your store or asks you to set up a connector, the connection didn't go through. Go back to your MCP Settings page, regenerate the URL, and paste the new one into Claude.
The Free plan works fine for getting started. It has daily message limits, so heavier users (lots of theme edits, image generation, bulk product work) benefit from Claude Pro.
ShopMCP itself works exactly the same on all Claude plans — the plan only affects how many messages you can send Claude per day.
Install & setup issues
Skip it. Use Claude in your web browser at claude.ai instead — ShopMCP works there the same way. No download or install needed.
That's Claude's own onboarding, not ShopMCP. Put any reasonable answer — it doesn't affect your ShopMCP connection. If the job title list doesn't match what you do, just pick the closest one.
If you said no to that Windows security prompt during the Claude Desktop installer, the desktop app won't install. That's the only thing affected — your ShopMCP setup is fine.
Easiest fix: skip the desktop app entirely and use claude.ai in your browser.
Yes — generating a new URL invalidates the old one. In Claude, go to Settings → Connectors, remove the old ShopMCP connector, and add the new URL. Then start a fresh chat.
Yes. In Claude, go to Settings → Connectors, click Shop MCP, and turn on Always approve for each tool. Claude will then act without interrupting you for permission.

Billing & subscription
Like any other Shopify app:
The app is removed and your subscription is cancelled. If you're still in the free trial, nothing is charged now or in the future.
The full app — every feature available, no limits — free for 30 days. No credit card needed to start. If you uninstall before the trial ends, you're never billed.
After your free trial, ShopMCP runs as a regular Shopify monthly subscription — billed through Shopify alongside your other apps. The current price is shown on your store's app billing page and on the ShopMCP pricing page.
Yes — ShopMCP works with every Shopify plan: Basic, Shopify, Advanced, Plus, and the development store plan. There are no plan-specific limits on ShopMCP itself.
Security & data
Yes. ShopMCP uses Shopify's official authentication — same level of access protection as any other Shopify app. Your MCP URL contains a private token unique to your account; treat it like a password. If it's ever exposed, regenerate it in the MCP Settings page to invalidate the old one immediately.
Claude only sees information when you ask for it — it doesn't background-scan your store.
Yes — anyone with your MCP URL can act on your store via ShopMCP. That's why we recommend keeping it private and not sharing it.
If you suspect the URL leaked, go to MCP Settings and click Regenerate. The old URL stops working immediately. Then update Claude with the new URL.
