Say you run an English Shopify store — let's call it Nordpine.com. It's doing well, and you want to expand into Germany. That means a nordpine.de domain, German content, and all your pages translated.

Shopify Markets handles the infrastructure. But the translation part? That's where most merchants get stuck clicking through Translate & Adapt one field at a time.

With ShopMCP, you do the whole thing in a Claude conversation.

Step 1 — Add the German market and assign your domain

First, create your German market in Shopify Admin → Settings → Markets and add nordpine.de as the domain. Then tell Claude to wire it up:

"List my markets and set nordpine.de as German by default."

Claude checks your markets, finds nordpine.de, and sets German (de) as the default locale for that domain. Visitors from Germany now land on the German site automatically.

Step 2 — Export your translations as a clean CSV

Now you need to translate everything. Instead of clicking through hundreds of screens in Translate & Adapt, just ask:

"Export all my page translations to a CSV so I can see what needs to be translated into German."

Claude exports all your theme content — headings, body text, button labels, form fields, dropdown options — and builds a clean CSV. Image URLs and internal page links are automatically filtered out, so the file contains only the text a translator needs to see.

The CSV looks like this:

field source (English) de_value status
image_banner.heading Premium outdoor furniture MISSING
image_banner.text Built to last a lifetime MISSING
button_label Shop now MISSING
contact_form.heading Get in touch Kontakt aufnehmen OK

Open it in Google Sheets, filter by status = MISSING, and you instantly see exactly what needs translating. No hunting through screens.

Step 3 — Translate everything with one prompt

Once you've reviewed the CSV, tell Claude to fill in the blanks:

"Translate all MISSING rows to German. Keep the tone professional but friendly — we sell premium outdoor furniture."

Claude translates every missing field with your brand tone in mind. You can review the output, tweak anything, or just move straight to uploading.

Step 4 — Push translations to Shopify

When you're happy with the translations, one more prompt and they're live:

"Upload these German translations to Shopify."

Claude sends them to Shopify in batches via the Translations API. If anything fails — a stale digest, a field that changed — it reports the error with a reason so you know exactly what to fix.

Your German store is live. Total time: one conversation.

What about Translate & Adapt?

Translate & Adapt is free and fine for a small store launching in one new language. But it has real limits:

  • Auto-translate stops at 2 languages — everything beyond that is manual
  • Content inside theme sections often doesn't appear in the app at all
  • No way to see all missing translations at once across your whole store
  • Adding a new market means clicking through every page, section, and product one by one

ShopMCP handles all of it through Claude. One conversation, any number of markets, any language.
