Say you run an English Shopify store — let's call it Nordpine.com. Things are going well and you want to start selling in Germany too. That means a nordpine.de domain, German content, and German visitors landing on a store that feels local to them.

Here's exactly how to do it.

Step 1 — Buy a domain and add it to Shopify

Buy your .de domain from any registrar (Google Domains, Namecheap, GoDaddy). Then add it in:

Shopify Admin → Settings → Domains → Add existing domain

Point the DNS to Shopify as instructed. Takes a few minutes to propagate.

Step 2 — Create the German market

Go to Shopify Admin → Markets → Add market. Add Germany as the region and select nordpine.de as the domain for this market.

Then tell Claude to set German as the default language for that domain:

"List my markets and set nordpine.de as German by default."

That's it for the setup. Shopify now automatically routes visitors from Germany to nordpine.de based on their IP address.

Step 3 — Export your translations

Now you need to translate your store content into German. Instead of clicking through every page manually, ask Claude to export everything at once:

"Export all my page and theme translations to a CSV so I can see what needs to be translated into German."

Claude builds a clean CSV with all your text fields — headings, button labels, body text, form fields — and a status column showing exactly what's missing. Open it in Google Sheets and you can see the full picture at a glance.

Step 4 — Translate everything

"Fill in all MISSING German translations. We sell outdoor furniture — keep the tone professional and friendly."

Claude fills every missing field with German translations that match your brand tone. You get the completed CSV back to review.

Step 5 — Review and upload

Scan through the CSV. Change anything that doesn't sound right for your brand. Then upload everything to Shopify in one go:

"Upload these German translations to Shopify."

Claude saves the translations directly into your Shopify store. German visitors now see nordpine.de fully in German, with prices in euros.

What you get beyond just a German store

Shopify automatically adds hreflang tags and includes your German pages in the sitemap. That means your .de store can start showing up in German Google searches — organic SEO visibility in a whole new market, without any extra work.

The same workflow works for any country. Once you've done Germany, adding France, Sweden, or the Netherlands takes the same amount of time.

How long does it take?

The technical part — market setup, geo-routing, uploading translations — takes a few minutes. Reviewing the translations is the only real time variable. For most stores, a quick scan is enough. Total: around 10 minutes of actual work.
