A quick guide for developers and agencies building or maintaining multiple Shopify stores — and how to use ShopMCP across all of them from a single Claude session.

Managing multiple stores in one Claude session

ShopMCP supports connecting several Shopify stores to Claude at the same time. Each store gets its own MCP connector URL, and you can add all of them to Claude. Claude will know which connector belongs to which store and can switch between them when you ask.

This is useful when you need to compare themes across stores, apply the same change to several client sites, or just keep an eye on multiple accounts without switching tabs.

Good to know: Multi-store works, but it is not as clean as working on one store at a time. Claude keeps track of which connector to call based on context, but being explicit — "do this on the anderseen store" — helps it stay accurate.

Install ShopMCP on each storeInstall the app from the Shopify App Store on every store you want to connect. Each install creates a separate account.
Generate a connector URL for each storeOpen MCP Settings for each store and copy its unique connector URL. The URL contains the store's credentials — keep it private.
Add all connector URLs to ClaudeIn Claude → Settings → Connectors, add each URL as a separate MCP server. Give each one a recognisable name like "SHOPMCP - storename" so Claude can tell them apart.
Start workingOpen a new Claude conversation. Tell Claude which store you want to work on and it will use the right connector. You can switch stores mid-conversation just by saying so.

Development and client transfer stores Free

ShopMCP is free for Shopify partner development stores and client transfer stores. Shopify does not allow paid app subscriptions on these store types, so we grant access automatically — no billing step, no dead subscription page.

Install the app on your dev or client transfer store as normal.
You will land on the dashboard directly without being redirected to a pricing page.
MCP Settings will show a confirmation that the store has free developer access.
When a client transfer store moves to a live paid Shopify plan, normal billing applies automatically.

FAQ

Is ShopMCP really free for development stores?

Yes. Shopify partner development stores and client transfer stores cannot subscribe to paid apps, so we give them free access. This applies for as long as the store is in your partner account. Once a client transfer store moves to a live Shopify plan, the standard trial and subscription flow applies.

What is the difference between a Dev store and a Client transfer store?

Both are free Shopify stores created from your partner account. A Dev store is a permanent sandbox — it stays yours and is ideal for testing apps or experimenting. A Client transfer store is built for handoff: you develop it, then transfer ownership to the client when it is ready. ShopMCP treats both the same way and gives both free access.

How many stores can I connect to Claude at once?

There is no hard limit in ShopMCP — you can generate connector URLs for as many stores as you have installed. Claude itself may have practical limits on how many MCP servers it handles cleanly in one session, so for focused work one or two stores at a time tends to work best.

Can Claude accidentally edit the wrong store?

Claude routes tool calls to the correct connector based on your instructions and the connector names you set. If you are specific about which store you mean, mistakes are unlikely. When working on something sensitive, it is good practice to run shopify_preflight first — it confirms which store the connector is pointing to.

Do I need separate Claude accounts or separate chats for each store?

No. All stores can be connected in a single Claude account and worked on within the same conversation. You can switch between stores just by asking Claude to focus on a different one.
